How I’m Creating a Season of Growth with Intentional Mindset Shifts and the Emotions Wheel
Spring is here, and with it comes the opportunity to reset, realign, and reimagine what your life can look like. After spending last quarter chasing balance, I knew this season needed to feel more grounded—less pressure, more intention. In this post, I’m sharing two mindset shifts that have changed how I approach my goals, a powerful emotional awareness tool I love (hello, Emotions Wheel!), and a peek into what’s coming up on my podcast, Taking Up Space. Whether you’re craving clarity, softness, or fresh energy, I hope this inspires you to slow down and bloom on your own terms.
🌀 What Is the Emotions Wheel?
The Emotions Wheel is a powerful tool used to help people better understand, name, and express what they’re really feeling. It takes commonly used emotions like happy or sad and breaks them down into more specific emotional experiences. This is important because vague emotional labels can sometimes make it hard to know what we actually need.
Think of it like this: when we say “I’m fine” or “I’m just tired,” we’re often brushing past deeper emotional truths. Maybe “tired” is actually overwhelmed. Maybe “fine” is covering up disappointment or even pride, but we haven’t slowed down enough to notice. The Emotions Wheel helps us go deeper. And deeper always means more clarity, more self-compassion, and better decisions.
💡 Why It Matters
When we don’t have language for what we feel, we can’t honor it. And when we can’t honor it, we tend to either ignore it or overreact to it. That’s where burnout, resentment, and disconnection sneak in.
Using the Emotions Wheel is an act of self-awareness—and self-care. It helps you:
Pause before reacting
Identify patterns in how you process emotion
Communicate your needs more clearly
Build deeper relationships (with yourself and others)
Emotions are information. When we learn to read them, we gain valuable insight into what our bodies, boundaries, and hearts are trying to tell us.
✨ How I Use It in Daily Life
I often reach for the Emotions Wheel when I’m feeling something I can’t quite name—or when I find myself saying the same general emotion on repeat. For example, I might think “I’m anxious,” but when I slow down and work through the wheel, I realize I’m actually feeling insecure or overstimulated or afraid of letting someone down. That extra level of detail helps me respond with so much more care and intention.
I also love using it:
After journaling to go deeper
Before tough conversations, so I know where I really stand
As a check-in during my Sunday resets
In coaching sessions to help others connect with their inner voice
🌱 Try It for Yourself
If this is your first time working with the Emotions Wheel, don’t overthink it—this is a tool, not a test. Use it with curiosity, not judgment. Start by identifying how you feel right now. Is it one of the core emotions like joy, sadness, or fear? Then trace outward—what’s underneath that?
You might be surprised how validating it feels to find a word that actually matches your internal experience.

🌸 Final Thoughts
As we move through spring—a season of awakening and intention—tools like the Emotions Wheel can help us reconnect to ourselves in the most powerful ways. When we make space to name what we feel, we make space to heal, grow, and choose what we want next.
So here’s your invitation:
Get quiet. Get curious. And let your emotions speak.
You are worthy of a life that honors all parts of you.
